The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has nominated the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Victor Umeh as a Member of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP).
Umeh’s nomination as a member of the Standing Delegation of Nigerian Parliaments to the Pan-African Parliament, was conveyed in a letter addressed to him from the Office of the Senate President.
The term of his membership of the Pan-African Parliament is expected to run concurrently with his tenure in the National Assembly.
Senator Umeh is going into the Pan-African Parliament as an astute and experienced parliamentarian, known for his valuable contributions and inputs to debates on the floor of the Senate.
Hailed as a welcome development, it is believed that the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development, will make Nigeria proud in his representation of the country at PAP.
Located in Midran, South Africa, the Pan-African Parliament which is the legislative organ of the African Union (AU) has up to 275 members representing the 55 AU Member States that have ratified the Protocol establishing it. Each Member State has five representatives.
