With the theme “Social Media for Business or Hate Promotion? Understanding the Dilemma of Young Nigerians on Social Media Amidst Enormous Opportunities,” the 11th edition of the annual ARISE IGALA Leadership Awards & Lectures is aimed at engaging major stakeholders in Nigeria regarding social media activities with the goal of redirecting many, particularly the younger generation, to the right paths.

Some critical stakeholders that the ARISE IGALA team will involve include the Federal Ministry of Information & National Orientation, Federal Ministry of Communication, Innovation & Digital Economy, Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture & Creative Economy, Federal Ministry of Trade & Investment, Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Youths & Sports Development, Federal Ministry of Defense, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Defense Space Centre, National Orientation Agency, Space Incubation Centre, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Guild of Editors, Nigerian Press Council, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, National Examination Council (NECO), the Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Nigeria Police Force.

Private invitations will be extended to individuals based on their capacities to contribute to the theme. Also, regular participants in the annual event will be invited as the organizers have all attendance records from the 1st to the 10th edition, which took place on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

The discussion is expected to be robust, as the outcome will be a major contribution to national discourse on social media in the country and beyond.

The ARISE IGALA team, with the primary objective of “Sailing Through Culture To National Unity, Peace And Development,” is focused on making the platform a key contributor to issues of national importance and a great unifier by honoring and bringing people of various cultural backgrounds together for the common good.

At the event, the convener will release a book, “THE WHOLE TRUTH,” which captures the harsh realities confronting us all today due to social media, though not neglecting the positive aspects. Painfully, findings of investigations by the major character (a journalist) in the book are deeply revealing and call for everyone to be alert, or else our mental health will be greatly challenged as time proceeds.

The 11th edition of ARISE IGALA Leadership Awards & Lectures is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Conference Hall of Nicon Luxury, Abuja, at 12 noon.
