Ndoma-Egba: 68 hearty cheers to an exemplary leader

The Senate Leader in the 7th Senate and ex-Chairman of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, a politician of note and lawyer of high standing clocked 68 on March 8, 2024.

At 68, Ndoma-Egba is believed to have lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation and contributed enormously to the sustenance of democratic governance in Nigeria, national development and societal growth.

A quintessential leader, reformer and philanthropist, the erstwhile Senate Leader exposed to public life at a very young age, has made meaningful impacts in the lives of many through his human capacity development drive as a compassionate politician. Many indigent Nigerians that may never have seen the four walls of the university became graduates via the elaborate scholarship scheme of the former Board Chairman of the NDDC.

Today, he remains one of the highly respected politicians in Cross River State and at the national level for his vast contributions to nation building. His 12-year sojourn at the Senate between 2003 and 2015 was not only eventful but quite remarkable. His exploits at the Senate were visible to everyone. As Deputy Senate Leader in the 6th Senate, he was among the men of wisdom that vehemently pushed for the adoption of the doctrine of necessity at the National Assembly to break the constitutional logjam created at that time by the long absence of the then President.

The outstanding champion of the masses and defender of democracy, a good leader known for his sense of decorum, integrity and humility, was celebrated in a deluge of birthday messages by his friends, associates, loyalists and admirers with many recalling how he had positively impacted their lives.

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, was at the residence of Ndoma-Egba in Abuja to wish him happy birthday after earlier releasing a statement he personally signed to congratulate the legal luminary.

Otu, describing Ndoma-Egba as the most remembered Senate Leader, said Nigeria was not done with him as he believes he has a lot to offer the country from his huge wealth of experience.

In his birthday message, the governor stated: “It is heart-warming to join millions of your esteemed friends, associates and family members to celebrate your 68th Birthday Anniversary.

“Having known you for over three decades now, I can attest to the fact that you are a worthy and dependable servant-leader clothed in humility and focused on humanity; for despite your brilliance in governance as a one-time member of the Cross River State Executive Council and a Senator of the Federal Republic, you have remained a friend-next-door personage. These are astounding testimonials worthy of note!

“Together with my beloved wife – Her Excellency, Rev. Mrs Eyoanwan Otu and the good people of Cross River State, I wish you a hearty birthday and more of God’s grace.”

The Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba, in extending their heartfelt congratulations to the ex-Senate Leader, via a statement signed by the acting publicity secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Edem Inyang JP, said: “As we reflect on your remarkable journey, we are reminded of your inspiring trajectory, impeccable character, commitment to excellence, evident through your extensive educational achievements, international responsibilities, and significant contributions at both state and national levels over the years

“Your illustrious career path as a legal luminary who rise to the pinnacle of the respected legal profession of the enviable height of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, graced with numerous accolades and recognition, showcases your exceptional leadership and service to humanity and your tireless efforts in advocating for the welfare and prosperity of the people of Cross River State.

“Beyond your educational and political achievements as a three time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Leader of the Senate, as well as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), you are a reliable father, community leader and pace setter. On your shoulders you have carried the growth and development of your community, ensuring that your people benefit from the dividends of democracy.”

The Cross River APC acknowledged the immense contributions of Ndoma-Egba to the victory of the party as a “reputable critical stakeholder” at the 2023 General Election and “also rejoice in the privilege of knowing a person of such profound integrity, compassion, and vision.”

The Honourable Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, rejoicing with the man viewed as a portrait of legislative excellence on his 68th birthday, said: “Senator Ndoma-Egba has been a pillar of strength and a beacon of leadership in Ikom Local Government, and his contributions to the development of Cross River State are truly commendable. As the former Senate Leader and a distinguished statesman, he has always worked tirelessly for the betterment of our people.

“On this auspicious occasion, I pray for good health, happiness, and prosperity for Senator Chief Victor Ndoma Egba. May he continue to inspire us all with his wisdom and dedication to public service.”

Hon. Sunny Udeh, one of the associates of Ndoma-Egba describes him as “an affable personality, simple and down to earth. He is a good mixer who does not discriminate and is constantly on the lookout for opportunities to impact people positively. He is a builder of human assets. He has impacted my life like the mentor that he is and it is a privilege that I do not take for granted. Happy birthday to a Leader and a Mentor. I pray that God grants you continuous blessings in good health. Amen.”

Hon Edo Owan Amba is a one-time Councilor of Ndoma-Egba’s Akparabong ward currently aspiring for the Chairmanship seat of Ikom LGA.

He described the former NDDC Board Chief as “a unifier and peacemaker.”

Hon Amba said: “Senator Victor Ndoma Egba is a man I have known for over 30 years but very closely for about 23 years. He’s the best leader I have met and worked with. It started with Politics and then we became a family. He’s a man of many parts, humble, unassuming, carries on without emotions whatever the situation is, good or bad. He’s a time keeper and promise keeper. He is a Christian who serves humanity according to Christ’s dictates, giving without announcing. He’s also of the school that believes in teaching followers how to fish. He hates thuggery and blackmail. He’s a family man, with just three biological children but so many adopted ones of whom I am one.”

The International Partnership Manager of Start-Rite Schools Abuja, Mr. Daniel Chukwuemeka, eulogized the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, describing him as a shining example of a proactive leader always committed to duty and service.

Start-Rite Schools is a co-educational institution founded by the late wife of Ndoma-Egba where he now sits as the Advisory Board Chairman.
